Holiday Make and Take Added Below
The following Make and Take Kits are made available with Directions and Pictures.
This will be an ongoing program for all persons who work with children in Early Childhood Programs, Head Start Programs, Preschool Programs, Special Ed Programs, Before and After School Programs, Brownies, Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, Camping Groups, Summer Camp Groups and many other Organizations working with children. Projects are designed for children ages 4 and up under supervision.
The above projects will be highlighted with instructions and patterns. The supplies for most all of the projects have been purchased at the many variety of Dollar Stores in most of our areas. Card Stock from the Sam's Club or Costco is the cheapest. Clear Contact Paper and tongue depressors purchased at WalMart's seems to be the most inexpensive I have found, unless you are lucky enough to have an in-house laminating machine. Storage for each activity can be maintained in zip-lock bags.
All Printable Patterns are available at the end of the Directions.
Soft In-house Play Ball

Supplies Needed
3 solid color soft foam sponges. (usually about 1" think and 6" long)
1- 6 to 10" electric cord tie wrap (they are found in the dollar store about 50 to a pack)
Scissors
Lay the three sponge pieces on top of one another and cut into three equal strips. Twist together in the middle and place the Tie Wrap around middle and pull very tight. Cut off excess length. This is a nice soft toss ball even for young toddlers.
Placemat puzzle
Supplies needed
Any placemat of choice:
1 - Having individual pictures as the one above
or
1 - having an all over design
Sharp pointed scissors
Using the placemat with individual pictures on it, cut each

but different sizes.
Using the placemat with and over all design, cut the placemat
in about 5-8 pieces, depending on the age of the child, and have
child put the picture together. Storage can be maintained in a zip-lock bag.

homemade die

Glue or Packing Tape
Tissue
Print the pattern onto Card Stock. Use Clear Contact Paper or Laminate. I do this in two steps for durability, one of the laminate or contact paper and then when together, the packing tape to secure. Fold on the lines tightly to hold. Use Tissue Paper or Kleenex or even shredded paper or newspaper to stuff securely to it won't crush. Using the Tape secure all openings.

turkey squeaker

Supplies Needed
1 - 12 oz plastic drinking cup
1 - 1" piece of cut sponge
1 - 24" piece of twine
Marker or Scrap Felt for Features
Feathers (optional)
Pointed Scissors
First punch a whole in the center of the top of the cup. Bring twine up from inside and tie a double knot, one on top the other, to prevent from pulling thru. Dampen the sponge and tie the other end of the twine tightly around the middle of the sponge. Using a marker apply features of a Face or using pieces of stick on felt cut out features of a Chicken or a Turkey. Feathers can be added as well.
Making sure that the sponge is moist, hold the cup in your hand and place the sponge folded over onto the twine just at the bottom of the cup and using a jerking motion slide it down the twine. It makes a squeaking sound as you are coming down. NOTE: The sponge must be moist, not soaked.

or
1 Plastic Folder Box (Found at the Dollar Store)

Game Markers of Choice
(I use a variety of Dollar Store Barrettes with the clasp cut off. They have so many cute ones, Bears, Dogs etc. You can get up to 24 with 12 matching barrettes in a package.)
Print the game board pieces on regular copy paper. Attach to the folder with Clear Copy Paper or Laminate. Print the Alphabet cards onto Card Stock. Use Clear Contact Paper or Laminate and then cut apart. Shuffle the cards and have the child take turns picking of the cards. If they can say the letter and find the match, they can place their marker on the spot. If they cannot, the card goes to the bottom of the pile and the next child plays. (Of course the children yell it out so they can find it so they don't loose a turn.) Fun Alphabet Game.
