                                              Chair Back Seat Sacks

Here you will find pictures of the ones that I made.  I made mine slightly different.  The material is doubled, I added a pocket at the bottom and also a plastic case for the child's name.

First I researched material from Wal-mart, JoAnn's Fabrics and Hancock Fabrics.  I was able to find Trigger Cloth at all places on the bolt. Hancock Fabrics and Wal-Mart had the best prices 60" wide and $2.00 a yard.  I purchased 11 yards of material and 1 yard of plastic, probably medium duty.  NOTE: To maintain shape in these Chair Seat Back Packs make sure to wash the fabric prior to cutting as to not end up with a miss-shaped bag after making it and it's first washing.

Cut two pieces washed fabric 14" x 28"

Cut one piece of fabric 4" x 13"

Cut one piece of plastic 2 1/2"  x 10".

Sew the two 14" x  28" pieces together on three sides, turn inside out. (Similar to a pillow case.) Turn the open end in about 3/8" and sew closed.
On the top, fold to the back 5" then place the top of the plastic 1" inch down on the front side. At the 6" inch mark which will be the front side.  I then used invisible scotch tape, 1/2" wide,  and taped the sides and the bottom.  Placing the tape just over the plastic enough so the needle and sewing plate will flow without sticking and then I sewed it on with a zigzag stitch.  After stitching the tape is barely noticeable so I left it on.

Then, take the 4" x 13" piece of material, fold and sew a narrow hem on one of the long edges.  Fold the bottom piece up towards the front 8" and measure down 4" from the top edge and place the pocket piece.  Fold the side and bottom under and stitch in place.

Then at the 4" and 8" point on the pocket, double stitch to make 3 pockets.

Fold the top down 5" facing to the back and the bottom up 8" facing front.  Stitch all the away around, including the folded areas. Double stitch when the top pocket and the bottom pocket meet to make stronger.  This stitch includes the top and the bottom.  I find these much sturdier and will fit both the 10" and 12" chairs.

Have fun !
